    MannVanuary: Origins (2022) - #14

I was originally planning to watch Red Rock West to fulfill the John Dahl criteria for this challenge, but seeing as how that movie doesn't currently appear to be on any streaming services and the physical version is out of print, I decided to go with this movie instead.

There's fun to be had with this movie, but it's got some major issues. For one thing, the performances range from stilted and awkward like Mario Van Peebles', to hammy and ridiculous like Tone Loc's and Billy Zane's, to honestly pretty solid like Big Daddy Kane's of all people weirdly enough.

It felt like the film probably could have been trimmed down by almost thirty minutes without losing anything significant and would have been…

    Hooptober Ocho (2021) - Film #1

Although it has a reputation as a horror film, The Wicker Man is really more of a really bizarre police procedural with a sinister conspiracy at the heart of it. The horror elements don't come into play until the very end, but even that final scene struck me as tragic more than scary. Especially when I think about the main protagonist, a deeply religious Christian, pleading desperately with his God not to let his…
