While not quite on the level as previous adaptations, Joel Coen’s latest is still a truly captivating, atmospheric and visual stunning German expressionist style take of Shakespeare’s play. The cast were all great (leads Denzel Washington & Frances McDormand are wonderful as expected) but it was Kathryn Hunter was the true MVP for me. She was phenomenal.

While it’s definitely the weakest of Aaron Sorkin’s directorial work due to its TV film style feel and the script being underdeveloped in some areas with its topics/themes, I still found it a compelling and enjoyable biopic that solid turns from both Nicole Kidman & Javier Bardem.

I think we have found this decade’s THE PUNISHER: WAR ZONE. While it doesn’t have the sophistication or personal touch of the Guillermo del Toro films, this reboot of the HELLBOY series has its own tone/vibe that makes it stand on its own as a film. It’s messy, gory, insane, weird and very entertaining. Imagine it this way: if The Cannon Group did a version of HB, it would be this. Whether that’s a good thing or bad thing, I’ll leave it up to you. For me personally, I had a really fun time with it.

It was everything I wanted and more. It’s an absolutely fantastic, trippy and visually stunning action horror film that uses its simple revenge plot to make a truly insane psychedelic assault on the senses. Nicolas Cage gave a phenomenal tour-de-force performance. It feels like an LSD infused medieval fantasy set in the ‘80s.  I loved it!
