stupid banger. the furthest evolution of the resident evil films - horror as time elapsed, body/image transience and the detritus and decay accumulated between these three elements. retribution rewrote repeated itself as rage hoping to devastate the bearings that held it (genre, conventual cinematic language, iconography and culture), while this film is supremely haunted, unfinished, without the time necessary to end properly. anderson's filmmaking is at its most liquid and unruly, all as an act of resistance against the restraint of time. we'll never reach the bottom no matter how far we fall.
