This is not much more she is known than just being a very good courtroom drama. With the emphasis on the drama.

I dont know how true this actually is... butthis movie really drills down on how much of a trial is a performance. You kinda wonder whether that verdict was right...

At about 3/4th of the movie I suddenly had a breakthrough. Oh wait... this is Holy Motors again. And people are just helping other people process their feelings by 'play acting' as characters significant to them.

"Okay, now I'll be your wife."
"And for this scene I'll be YOUR husband."

But it's not like the movie gives you a satisfying version of that movie either. It's a shame because there is a very good normal movie in here. There's a very good weird movie in here. This isn't either of them.

My mother is crying and talking to me about how hard relationships are. She’s been processing out loud the challenges of marriage and motherhood. She does this every time we watch an emotional movie but I’m never fully prepared for it. None of the three of us is sleepy even though it’s quite late. My father is making us all Camomile tea.

People have often asked me why I still watch almost every movie with my parents... It’s for this…

I can imagine a conversation with myself from five years ago...

Past Me: So what did you watch last night?

Present Me: Oh I saw Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Past Me: Wow really? Terrible wasn't it.

Present Me: Not really, I quite liked it

Past Me: Why? It's melodramatic, completely over the top, and overly sentimental.

Present Me: Yes, yes it is.

Past Me: And you still liked it?

Present Me: Yes, yes I did.
