    A mostly strong and somewhat provocative character piece masquerading as a thriller. That the thriller is offbeat and vibey as fuck, exactly the kind of arthouse genre shit that I eat up, makes me wish that it was foregrounded more often, especially when some of the drama gets a little redundant in the later passages. Still, this is quintessential, unapologetic Filmmaking for Adult Audiences, something in short supply these days that I'm finding myself strongly craving.

    Man, Hollywood is in a weird place. How on Earth did anyone come up with the idea of spending $200 million on a disgustingly ornate live action origin story for a cartoon villain, directed as if it were Casino, complete with elaborate tracking shots, breathless VO, endless montages, and omnipresent classic rock needle drops. I hated it but, dude, it sure is strange.
