I recently watched a 7-hour film, and I was gripped throughout, so I'm not opposed to or frightened by length, but this movie is too long given the little it has to say, its one gimmick that wears itself thin rather quickly, and its tiresome pointless misogyny.

It's quite incredible how this is such a leap ahead of everything that came before it, and yet it's still Griffith doing his same old melodrama schtick, complete with his tired unforgivable sexism, racism, and antisemitism. Even so, this is ambitious, breathtaking, moving, and deeply human. Griffith is an easy man to despise, but I have to give credit to him here for creating a masterpiece of the age.
