I hadn’t realised that this was a remake of an older film but it does have that feel of a classic Western story: some
bad guys, a good guy down on his luck, brotherhood, ludicrous amounts of shooting in a high stakes showdown.

Certified Good Guy™️ Christian Bale, who has had a rotten run of luck losing his leg and his farm and the respect of his family, witnesses a stagecoach robbery and somehow ends up volunteering to escort the…

    In the Tall Grass

    ★★½

A car stops at the side of an isolated road and a pregnant woman pukes out the door, then hears a child lost and shouting in the tall grass fields. They go in to rescue him and then time and geography all go a bit weird. It’s ok though, dead things don’t move.

So I am pretty unshakeable when it comes to scary films, and I didn’t find this that unsettling, but it was pretty shocking.

Starts off with the death of unlikeable granny who seems to have been quite secretive, then there’s an implication she’s into spooky stuff and spiritualism and then we’re into full-on seance and possibly vengeful spirit territory.

Turns out granny was into a bit more than just bothering dead relatives.

    CW: gore, violence, fiery death.

Two kids go to stay with their grandparents, who they have never met as their mother left home 15y before and hasn’t spoken to them since. Things get a bit weird but maybe it’s all just dementia? Maybe not.

Honestly proper scary and unpredictable, loved it.
