So I only watched this for Willem Dafoe in drag and that was all it was good for tbh.
"I am not the girl I used to be."
This film owes everything to Emily Blunt's perfect peformance of bleary-eyed self-loathing; besides that, it is a regrettably sanitised version of Gone Girl with rather vanilla and only partially-explored characters and little to no build up of tension. As adaptations go, this one was pretty bang-on, so perhaps my problem lies fundementally with the novel (and it's terribly obvious ending). Still, it was missing that much-needed darkness, and in some parts felt more like a Lifetime movie than anything truly gripping.
