    Director Dash Shaw previously made the trippy, exciting and fun My Entire High School Sinking into the Sea in 2016 (go watch it if you haven't), and Cryptozoo, his most recent film, is a much more ambitious project, and definitely has much more to offer than his previous work.

    Cryptozoo looks gorgeous. I liked a lot its visual style, the artistry of almost every frame. It feels like a collage made animation, combining so many different styles in a "cutout"…

    I picked the wrong movie then.

    Anyway, amazing visuals, great performances and all, but I struggled to get invested in these characters, and in a story filled with lame conviniences, unengaging elements and just no interest in fleshing out its characters. It started promising, but it lost me really quick.

    There's a song by Owl City in this. OWL City, GET IT? *Sigh*
