Ashamed to say that I didn't even realize what was actually going on here until pretty late in the game, but boy, what a knockout! There's something very interesting going on here with the film's editing in relationship to the imagistic investigations conducted by Mikael and Lisbeth that I'm going to need more time with to grasp fully, but either way, very glad to see that this is far more than the tightly-wound thriller it initially purports to be. The ending is obviously heartbreaking, but it also reassures that Lisbeth might be able to escape the cycle just yet, and for that, I can do nothing but commend it. Thank god that this film is so emotionally tethered to her above all others, because she's clearly what makes this special.
