  • Dune

Well, I have finally witnessed with my own eyes the next film from Denis Villeneuve. That, of course, being Dune, based on the book by Frank Herbert.

Before I begin, I must stress to those unaware going in: this is an adaptation of only the first half of the book (which I managed to read prior to this), and the film itself is titled “Part 1.” With that out of the way, I need to share my thoughts.

    I… I…

I want to give my followers an update on my life and the sheer amount of movies I've backlogged or removed over the past few weeks, coupled with a review of this masterpiece:

One, I have been somewhat depressed over the past few weeks up until the past three days, to the point that until two days ago I barely got any sleep every night. I just felt unworthy of love the past few weeks, I couldn't seem to get…

    The Power of the Dog

Just saw The Power of the Dog, a new western directed by Jane Campion and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Jesse Plemons...

This film is extremely solid. The story is engaging enough, the characters that the film focuses on are extremely well-written, the dialogue is good, the cinematography is solid, the score by Johnny Greenwood is phenomenal, and the film is well edited. The film's ending, without spoiling, is also extremely subtle and well-done!

    The performances are…

    Kung Fu Panda 3

The worst of the three. I like this movie, but there are parts of it that I don’t like.

Just as I was getting into the Furious Five’s dynamic with Po after the second movie, all of them except Tigress get sidelined by Kai for the sake of the dumb panda comedy. Also, Kai is not nearly as good of a villain as Thai Lung or Lord Shen. And yeah, the humor is kinda bad.

    Also, this is a minor…

    The Suicide Squad

So I just saw James Gunn's The Suicide Squad (2021).

I am making that specific distinction of this movie to distinguish it from its predecessor, Suicide Squad (2016). I make said distinction because that 2016 film is a film I cannot stand. I thought the 2016 film had absolute garbage editing, mostly flat and unlikable characters (with two or so exceptions, one of which is reappearing in this movie, interestingly enough), a completely random and forced soundtrack, a terrible script,…

Really great movie, but in my opinion, it's most likely Pete Docter's weakest movie. It's, at best, on par with Up. It's not as good as Inside Out and is nowhere near the level of Monsters, Inc.

This movie asks many great questions about life in its themes and subtexts, and I find it commendable how it doesn't have all the answers! The characters are all likable, as usual for a Pixar film. The score by Trent Reznor and Atticus…
