This movie shredded my soul.
What I love about this movie is that it puts all the dark things bubbling under the surface of the show and thrusts them front and center. Sheryl Lee's performance is amazing. The film is almost hyper emotional. It's not the most "fun" film to watch, being that we are plunged into the psyche of a teen-aged sexual abuse survivor. We watch as she is taken advantaged of and failed by everyone. That scene when the angel vanishes from the painting right at the start of when things go real bad, really hit me in the gut. No way out through family or friends, "And the angels wouldn't help you, because all of the angels are gone." Laura's face smiling at you in the blue tinted light as the credits role.
