An equal amount of blueberries in each muffin
While it stretches on for a bit, it is very insightful about the life, character and assassination of a promising potential presidential candidate for Mexico (which reminded me of the documentary, Bobby Kennedy for President) and the subsequent fall of one of the longest ruling parties in the country. Love a documentary that has tons of archival footage to back up the narration and presenting opinions/accounts from both sides.
If you have watched the trailer, you pretty much know the plot. The de-aging looks impressive, except for the last 10 minutes, where it looks uncanny and rubbery. Despite being classified as a thriller, it lacks energy and the action scenes aren’t memorable. The performances are decent.
One of my absolute favourites!
Even at my 4th viewing, I wasn’t bored or distracted for even a second. Many have claimed this to be a derivative of Goodfellas and, yes, there are a few similarities here and there, especially with the soundtrack with popular songs from the 70s, certain thematic elements, some of the recurring cast members and Scorsese’s filming style. However, Casino is a significantly different work of art that stands on its own merit.
While Goodfellas concentrates…
I re-watched this for the 3rd or 4th time and it is still an enjoyable experience. There is so much to like in this film - Chris Pratt’s charismatic and humorous performance, Bradley Cooper’s fantastic voice acting as Rocket Raccoon, the chemistry amongst the main cast, the pacing, writing, visual effects and the amazing soundtrack. The plot is predictable yet simple (it’s a Marvel movie after all). Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 is a well-crafted space adventure and thus, a fun weekend watch.
