Sumptuous period detail, chill-inducing needle drops, smooth long takes, sensitive character work, this movie has everything but a strong narrative drive, really. It's a hangout picture, a lovely nostalgia trip to Anderson's old stomping grounds, but I can't help but wish the darker tones were more fully realized like his classic work. They kind of just come and get shrugged off. Life goes on.

Anderson could very well be evolving here and I'm too clench fisted to the loud Anderson…

If you ever find yourself in a tour bus hosted by Guillermo del Toro, jump off. Half of the time he'll be rambling over shit only he cares about and it'll probably run an hour too long.

    One generation's Pacino/De Niro in a diner is another's Pattinson/Lautner in a tent.

    Gaga: Five Foot Two

Apparently Gaga has never seen Pennebaker's Don't Look Back. There's no such thing as an honest behind the music documentary. There's an agenda, a persona being sold every second a camera is present. Makeup-free and often sobbing, it's a look no less trumped up and manufactured than Kiss' Unmasked days.
