I love the films of Frank Borzage, from his silent classics like Seventh Heaven & Lucky Star to The Mortal Storm & Moonrise. "History..." is very entertaining and beautifully produced. This new Criterion is ravishing, so much better than any other version that I have seen. Jean Arthur is at her best, and the lighting on her is pure Hollywood. Exciting special FX and more laughs than any other Borzage movie. For more on my feelings about Borzage watch this:trailersfromhell.com/the-mortal-storm/
Fantastical and virtuosic it is a relentless onslaught of style.Thatb 17mm lens has perfect glass and is the backbone off the movie. It's all distancing and uninvolving yet RIVETING. I was very influenced by Wong Car Wai's stylishness in the late 90's and used many of his photographic ideas in a pilot called "Desert Breeze", "Shake Rattle & Rock" and "The Temptations."
Can you review a movie that you made? I need a ruling on that! I was rewatching to prepare for the new Blu-Ray release.
So NO I don't sit around and watch my old movies & TV shows.
Some really embarrassing nudity, bad jokes, unconvincing performances, & underwritten characters. On the other hand whole sections still make me laugh, the music scenes all work especially Nada & Piggy and I LOVE Malcom McDowell every time he's on the screen.
Does that count as a review? AND I didn't turn off the TV!! Also I am really happy that it's finally coming out. AT long last
